iPhone Producer User Guide

Project Screen
New Project - iPhone Film Production app New Project: Producer opens on the Project catalogue; this is where you keep track all your projects. Existing Projects are tiled on the page, showing either the project image or the project title if no image has been added. Press the plus (+) button on the top left of the panel to add a new Project. Begin your new Project by adding an image using the button next to the ‘Production image’ label; this will become the Project icon.

In the Project Details window you can enter information on:

  • Film Name
  • Director
  • Writer
  • Distributor
  • Genre
  • Aesthetics
  • Plot
  • Notes
  • Preproduction Start and End Dates
  • Principle Photography Start and End Dates
  • Post Production Start and End Dates


Project Add Picture - iPhone Film Production appThese are all free text fields, and Producer will make auto correction suggestions when it registers a word not in its dictionary. If you still make an error and want to go back and correct it, you can press and hold over the text.

A magnified view of the word will appear, allowing you to place the cursor exactly where the edit needs to be made. Lift off the screen once the cursor is in the right position and edit.

When you have finished editing the Plot or Notes fields, click on the tick in the top right hand corner to move to the next text box. Enter all the required details and press ‘Back’ (at the top left hand side of the Project panel).

You will be taken back to the main Producer window. You can click on the Project icon to see a summary of the details you have just entered.

This summary page also allows you to archive completed Projects, using the option at the bottom of the screen and delete projects that are not longer required.

Now that you have a Project, you can add information about Scripts, Casting, Crew, Locations and Budget, using the icons at the bottom of the panel.

If they are not displayed, click once on a Project to select it. The icon at the top right hand side of the Producer Main Window hides archived Projects.

The icon will be dark grey if there are hidden archived Projects. Click the dark grey icon to display these archived Projects.


Budget Screen
Budget Blank - iPhone Film Production appThe Budget screen allows you to keep a financial eye on the Project. Producer allows you to add a budget to each Project, and then keeps track of all the expenditure on each individual element during both pre and post production.

When you open the project budget panel, Producer shows the totals for above and below the line expenditure, and details the budget and actual spend figures, allowing you to quickly assess if the project is on budget. Producer also provides a range of categories typically involved in media production as default, which are all editable, and can be ignored or deleted if not required.

You can delete an unwanted category by clicking it to open the detail screen and then clicking the ‘Delete’ button on the top right hand side of the panel. The category will only be removed from this Project. Add or edit a budget for the current project by clicking the ‘More…’ button at the bottom of the panel and selecting ‘Budget’.


Budget Populated - iPhone Film Production appAbove The Line expenses are costs associated with people who guide and influence the creative direction of a project such as:

  • Producer
  • Director
  • Writer
  • Actors

Above the Line expenses are usually negotiated and set prior to production beginning. Each item can be given a budget figure and an actual figure, added on a detail screen by clicking the arrow next to the item. You can change the name of the budget item, the amount budgeted and the actual spend. You can also swap the item from the Above the Line category to Below the Line using the slider at the bottom of the panel. Once the detail is complete, click the Back button to update the budget.


Script Screen
Script New - iPhone Film Production appClick on the Script button to add plot details.

You can split the script up into sections, with each section having a title, body and an icon, which will be used to identify the scene. Alternatively , this can be used as a robust shoot list.

The icon image can be taken from the Casting folder, from the Locations folder or from the photo folder on the phone. If you choose to use an image from within Producer (ie the Casting or Locations folder) the software will recognise the character or location name you assigned and offer to bring that into the script page. 

You can add script pages one at a time using the plus (+) button (top right of the panel), until you have created the whole outline for the project. The Script pages do not contain actual dialog but describe the direction the scene should take, key plot points and significant developments.


Script Page - iPhone Film Production appYou can scroll through each individual page using the left and right buttons at the top of the panel, or by dragging across the screen to turn the pages. Script pages can still be edited from this script browser using the ‘Edit’ button (top left of the panel).


Casting Screen
Casting Screen - iPhone Film Production appEach member of the Cast can be given an individual Profile, which can be inputted directly, or imported from other Projects, allowing you to build a network of regular, reliable contacts. Click the plus (+) button (top right of the panel) to add a cast member through the Add Casting window.


Casting Import Cast - iPhone Film Production appClick the Add New Casting to create a completely new profile, or click Import Casting to bring in a profile from another Project. If you select ‘Import’, all previous cast members will be displayed, scroll down until you find the profile you want.

When you click ‘Import’, you will have the options to Clone or Share. If you Clone, the details will be duplicated (allowing you to rename and edit the profile to quickly create a duplicate, similar cast member).


Casting Add Image - iPhone Film Production appIf you select Add New Casting, you can add the Actor Name, and:

  • Role
  • Notes
  • Age
  • Height
  • Sex
  • Shoe Size (for wardrobe)
  • Ethnicity (for makeup)
  • Hair Colour
  • Dress/Shirt Size (for wardrobe)
  • Training (required for this role)
  • Experience
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Confirmed (whether they have accepted the contract for this project)
  • Images (from other roles)


Casting Cast View - iPhone Film Production appIf you Share, the details of the Cast Member will be added to the current Project, but any changes you make will be reflected in every Shared instance of that Cast Member Profile.

Email and Phone Numbers will be directly available from the iPhone; you will be able to click on the link and compose an email or call the number.


Crew Screen
Crew Import - iPhone Film Production appThe details of each member of the crew required for the Project can be added or imported from other Projects, allowing you to build a network of regular, reliable contacts. Click the plus (+) button (top right of the panel), to add a crew member through the Add Crew window.

Click the Add New Crew Member to create a completely new profile, or click Import Crew Member to bring in a profile from another Project. If you select ‘Import’, all previous crew members will be displayed, scroll down until you find the profile you want.

  • An Image (from the Phone picture folder)
  • Name
  • Job Title
  • Experience
  • Notes
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Rate
  • Agent
  • Whether the Member has confirmed the contract

Email and Phone Numbers will be directly available from the Iphone, you will be able to click on the link and compose and email or call the number.


Locations Screen
Location Import - iPhone Film Production appEach Location used within the Project can be catalogued within Producer. The details of each Location can be added, or can be imported from other Projects. Add or edit a Location for the current project by clicking the ‘More…’ button at the bottom of the panel and selecting ‘Location’.

Click the plus (+) button (top right of the panel), to add a new Location through the Add Location window. Click the ‘Add New Location’ button to create a completely new profile, or click ‘Import Location’ to bring in a Location from another Project.


Film location Add image - iPhone Film Production appIf you select ‘Import’, all previous Locations will be displayed, scroll down until you find the one you want. When you click ‘Import’, you will have the options to Clone or Share.

If you Clone, the details will be duplicated (allowing you to rename and edit the Location details to quickly create a duplicate, similar Location). If you Share, the details of the Location will be added to the current Project, but any changes you make will be reflected in every shared instance of the location.

  • Location Name
  • Notes
  • Owners (Contact name, might be the manager)
  • Address (Location address, the owners may not live on site)
  • Phone (Contact Phone Number)
  • Email
  • Fee
  • Images (from the Phone picture folder)

Email and Phone Numbers will be directly available from the Iphone, you will be able to click on the link and compose and email or call the number.


Documents Screen
Film Documents Producer 

For your production documents, text scripts, shoot lists call sheets you have the documents section of Producer App.

You can store, accesses and forward project files you can also do the same for files shared across all projects.

In addition to opening all supported files you can email or upload to your Dropbox account once the file has been opened from the top navigation bar.

All files that have been downloaded via Dropbox directly to the project or created by the project are stored here.

You can accesses all files via iTunes File Sharing. Files unloaded via iTunes File Sharing are stored here and are accessible across all projects.


Film Documents Producer HD 

Using iTunes File Sharing to send a file to producer HD follow these steps:

1.Connect your iOS device to your computer using the included Dock Connector to USB cable.

2.Open iTunes on your computer.

3.Select your iOS device from the Devices section on the left side of iTunes.

4.Click the Apps tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

5.Under the File Sharing section, you should find a list of apps currently installed on your iOS device that use File Sharing. Select Producer App.

6.You can drag and drop files into the Documents list to send them to the app on your iOS device. You can also click the Add button, locate the file or files you want to send from your computer, and then click the Choose.
