The new television season for Fall has restarted recently and the reports and numbers for last years 2011-2012 season are out. In particular the statistics are for how women measured up behind the scenes in the TV industry.
In other statistics, women creators are up 18% to 26%. Women writers make up at least 30% of crew and staff. And in a 3% increase from last year, they make up 25% of executive producers. The report showed in the annual study women made up 26% of all creators, directors, producers and executive producers, directors of photography, writers and editors.
The numbers are an actually 1% increase from the season before and 5% up from the 1997-1998 season.
The report only goes that far and didn’t actually track the actual jobs on the TV shows which include all writing positions that will help give an idea of where women are in the industry at diverse levels.
It would be interesting to know whether women are stuck in staff writer positions or getting promoted to bigger and better things.
The report tracked shows from ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, CW and also reality TV.
