The Governors Award Goes To….A Male

The Academy has recently provided a list of recipients of their prestigious Governors Awards. The awards are given out to recipients in appreciation for their astonishing merits and involvement and accomplishments towards the motion picture arts and sciences. They are not voted for but instead presented at the discretion of the Academy.

The awards which will be held on December 1st at the 4th Annual Governors Awards will be given to all male recipients. They are D.A. Pennebaker, documentary filmmaker, Hal Needham, stunt performer and George Stevens Jr., arts advocate. The special Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award will be presented to Jeffrey Katzenberg.

There is no denying the excellent contribution of these men and that cannot be taken away from them; but for an institution that claims to be sorting out diversity issues, the recipients list seems like a step backwards.
