Oscar Nominations 5 Days Ahead

In an attempt to allow the public and the Academy members to acquire a longer time frame to watch the nominated films; the Academy made a decision to begin the announcement of the Award nominations 5 days in advance of the previously suggested date which will now be on Thursday January 10th 2013.

This will also mark first time the Academy is permitting the voting members to submit their votes electronically via an electronic voting process developed over a year ago with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Everyone Counts. It’s been said that widespread research and focus group sessions were held with members to guarantee a smooth transition and prevalent implementation.

Several voting sources will be available to members during the transitional period which includes a 24-hour telephone helpline during voting periods, the conventional paper ballots, as well as the setting up of supported voting locations in Los Angeles, New York and London.

Paper ballots will still be used during the pre-nomination stages in the following 8 categories; Visual Effects, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Foreign Language Film, Live Action Short Film, Animated Feature Film, Animated Short Film and Makeup and Hairstyling.

The 85th Annual Academy Awards presentation is scheduled to be on Sunday February 24th 2013 at The Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Centre in Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC.
