Project Screen

Project portfolio: Producer opens on the Project catalogue; this is where you keep track all your projects. Existing Projects are tiled on the page, showing either the project image or the project title if no image has been added. Press the plus (+) new project placeholder icon to add a new Project.

Archive completed production project using the option at the bottom of the edit screen. An archived project can be toggled on and off on the project catalogue to show or hide.

Production project dashboard: Now that you have a Project, you can add information about Scripts, Casting, Crew, Locations and Budget, using the icons at the bottom of the panel.

Begin your new Project by adding an image using the button next to the ‘Production image’ label; this will become the Project icon.

Fill out your Project details such as the production name, director, distributor, plot and notes to care to keep on the project.

These are all free text fields, at least one field is required to be filled out to save a project. iPad free text fields have autocorrect enabled as default.

You are also presented with an opportunity to set and edit preproduction, principle and post production Start and End Dates.

When you have finished editing details, press the Back button in the top left of the navigation bar to save and go back to the project dashboard.

Delete the project button on the top right of the toolbar will delete the project and their associated assets such as the script and the budget. Note the cast, crew and locations will not be deleted in this instance and may be called up within another project.


Script Screen

Tap on one of the three buttons on the right hand of the toolbar. These are description (scene heading), dialogue (character, parenthetical) or notes (action, extensions, transitions and shots) to create a screenplay elements.

Alternatively, this can be used as a robust shoot list if this is more fitting to you production. (Commercial or editorial still shoot or live event management).

Tapping reorder button in the lower right hand corner will set the script elements in drag and drop mode to set the order as you require.

When creating a script element an icon image can be taken from the Casting folder, from the Locations folder or from the photo folder on the phone.

If you choose to use an image from within Producer (ie the Casting or Locations folder) the software will recognise the character or location name you assigned and offer to bring that into the script page.


Casting Screen

Each cast is given an individual profile that once created can be shared between projects. Cast profiles can be input directly, or thus imported from other projects, allowing you to build a network of regular, reliable contacts.

Click the plus (+) button that you will find on the top right of the toolbar to add a cast member through the casting window.

Email and Phone Numbers will be directly available from the iPhone; you will be able to click on the link and compose an email or add contact number.

This is your talent profile with all the information and images readily available for review. Tapping on an image will take you to the full screen view of the image.

Tap the Add New Casting to create a completely new profile, or click Import Casting to bring in a profile from another Project. If you select ‘Import’, all previous cast members will be displayed, scroll down until you find the profile you want.

When you click ‘Import’, you will have the options to Clone or Share. If you Clone, the details will be duplicated (allowing you to rename and edit the profile to quickly create a duplicate, similar cast member).

You can import images and photos from your iPad. With iPad 2 you are also able to take images with the devises camera and insert directly.

If you select Add New Casting, you can add the Actor Name, etc. If you Share, the details of the Cast Member will be added to the current Project, but any changes you make will be reflected in every Shared instance of that Cast Member Profile.

Crew catalogue listings attached to the project, ticks to the right of the profile denotes confirmed status.

Information, notes and profiles of all crew for the production can be added or imported from other Projects, allowing you to build a network of regular, reliable contacts.

Click the plus (+) button top right of the navigation bar to add a crew member through the Add Crew window.

Tapping the Add New Crew Member to create a completely new profile, or click Import Crew Member to bring in a profile from another Project. If you select ‘Import’, all previous crew members will be displayed, scroll down until you find the profile you want.

Email and Phone Numbers will be directly hot linked on the devise for interesting, you are able to click on the link and compose and email or set user to the iPads contact list.

When you click ‘Import’, you will have the options to Clone or Share. If you Clone, the details will be duplicated (allowing you to rename and edit the profile to quickly create a duplicate, similar location).

If you Share, the details of the Crew Member will be added to the current Project, but any changes you make will be reflected in every Shared instance of that Crew Member’s details.


Locations Screen

Each Location attached to the Project is maintained within Producer app. The details of each Location are added, or can be imported from other Projects. Add a Location for the current project by tapping the ‘+’ button at the top right of the navigation bar.

By selecting a location from the list of locations assigned to the project you will open the project profile page.

Each location list item will show up to three thumbnail images on this screen, if there are fewer attached to the location profile placeholders will be shown. To the right of every location you will find confirmation tick. You may like to use this when the location has been confirmed for production.

Click the plus (+) button (top right of the panel), to add a new Location through the Add Location window. Click the ‘Add New Location’ button to create a completely new profile, or click ‘Import Location’ to bring in a Location from another Project.

Location profile screen: This profile or dashboard of the production location. From here you are able to edit the location profile, refer to notes, view property images at full screen resolution and interact with hot linked information:

Creating or editing a location profile will give you an option to set some of the following fields: Location Name, Notes, Owners (Contact name, might be the manager), Address (Location address, the owners may not live on site), Phone (Contact Phone Number), Email, Location Fee and location Images (from the iPad2 camera or device image folder).

Email and Phone Numbers will be directly available from the iPad, you are able to tap and interact directly with email and phone numbers as well as the address of the location.


Budget Screen

The Budget screen allows you to keep a financial eye on the Project. You can keep a budget to each Project, and then track all expenditure on each individual element during both pre and post production. Both above and below the line as well as the budget and actual spend per incurred cost.

When you open the project budget panel, Producer shows the totals for above and below the line expenditure, and details the budget and actual spend figures, allowing you to quickly assess if the project is on budget. Producer also sets a template range of categories typically involved in media production as default just to give you a hand to get things started. These are all editable, and can be ignored or deleted if not required.

You can delete an unwanted category by clicking it to open the detail screen and then clicking the ‘Delete’ button on the top right hand side of the panel. The category will only be removed from this Project.

Above the Line expenses are usually negotiated and set prior to production beginning. Each item can be given a budget figure and an actual figure, added on a detail screen by clicking the arrow next to the item.

You can change the name of the budget item, the amount budgeted and the actual spend. You can also swap the item from the Above the Line category to Below the Line using the slider at the bottom of the panel. Once the detail is complete, click the Back button to update the budget.

Above-the-line refers to the list of individuals who guide, influence and hopefully add to the creative direction, process and voice of a given narrative in a film and their related expenditures.

Below-the-line as a term refers to the list of individuals who perform the physical production of a given film, the post-production work and all of the related expenditures.


Documents Screen

For your production documents, text scripts, shoot lists call sheets you have the documents section of Producer App. There are three major user functions here.

You can store, accesses and forward project only files you can also do the same for files shared across all projects. You can create a project brief or industry formatted screenplay PDF from your script.

In addition to opening all supported files you can rename, delete, email or upload to your Dropbox account.

Project Files: All files that have been downloaded via Dropbox directly to the project or created by the project are stored here.

You can accesses all files via iTunes File Sharing.

Shared Attachment Files: Files unloaded via iTunes File Sharing are stored here and are accessible across all projects.


Film Documents Producer HD 

Using iTunes File Sharing to send a file to producer HD follow these steps:

1.Connect your iOS device to your computer using the included Dock Connector to USB cable.

2.Open iTunes on your computer.

3.Select your iOS device from the Devices section on the left side of iTunes.

4.Click the Apps tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

5.Under the File Sharing section, you should find a list of apps currently installed on your iOS device that use File Sharing. Select Producer App.

6.You can drag and drop files into the Documents list to send them to the app on your iOS device. You can also click the Add button, locate the file or files you want to send from your computer, and then click the Choose.
